The science behind Levitra

Like other erectile dysfunction medications available on prescription, Levitra is a PDE-5 inhibitor, meaning it prevents the enzyme PDE-5 from hindering the process of gaining and maintaining an erection. An erection occurs during arousal, when the brain sends a series of messages to the nervous system. cGMP, a natural substance, causes the blood vessels in the muscle walls of the penis to expand, allowing greater blood flow into the penis. This causes it to become erect so sexual intercourse can take place. When there are no erectile problems, the penis will become flaccid after sex has occurred, when the enzyme PDE-5 breaks down the cGMP.

Erectile dysfunction occurs when PDE-5 breaks down cGMP too early, so it is not possible to sustain an erection long enough for intercourse. The active ingredient in Levitra, vardenafil, stops this from occurring.

Why choose Levitra pills over other treatments?

Levitra was first approved in 2003 and has been a very successful and popular treatment since then. Unlike other impotence medication, it is effective in a lower dose, meaning it is less likely to lead to adverse side effects. For this reason, it is often recommended for older men, or those who have underlying health conditions which may make other erectile dysfunction medications unsuitable. Examples of these kinds of health conditions are diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

When taken fifteen to twenty minutes before sex, Levitra can last up to five hours. Many men who did not successfully treated with Viagra found success with Levitra.

Who should and should not buy Levitra pills?

Levitra vardenafil will likely be prescribed to you if you are over the age of 18 and suffering from erectile dysfunction. Clinical trials have shown that Levitra is especially tolerable for men who are over 50 and men who suffer from diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

You should not buy Levitra online if you are taking nitroglycerin, nitrates or particular antiarrhythmics. It will also not be prescribed to men who are recovering from either a stroke or a heart attack, or have had severe heart palpitations recently. It should be used in caution in men who suffer from liver problems, kidney disease or eye problems.

How to take Levitra pills

Levitra is available to buy in one of three strengths, either 5mg, 10mg or 20mg. Most men who are taking these pills for the first time will be prescribed a lower dosage, which will then be increased if it does not produce the desired results. You can take the tablet with or without food, but especially fatty food may cause a delay to the effect of the medication.

You can expect Levitra to begin working in as little as fifteen minutes, after which it will stay in your system for up to five hours. You should not take more than one Levitra tablet during a 24 hour period.

Possible side effects

The risk of side effects with Levitra is relatively low, though you should be prepared for the possibility of them occurring. You may experience facial flushing, headaches, nausea, indigestion, dizziness or a blocked or runny nose. If these do occur, they will usually be very mild and will not last for too long.

It is very rare to experience more serious side effects, and they should be reported to a doctor if they occur. They can include changes to blood pressure, stiff muscles and vision changes.
